How to Get Here
By Sea: Owners and crew of sailing yachts will be particularly glad to know that the Turks & Caicos Yacht Club has direct entry from the Atlantic Ocean via the charted "Leeward Cut" which carries 12 feet of water at MLW (Mean Low Water) with the average depth being 14' to 20'. Our entry channel has a lighted international buoy system from the Atlantic Ocean to our marina which permits 24-hour entry directly to our docks, a 1 ½ mile distance.Upon your arrival into the Turks and Caicos Islands, you will need to clear Customs and Immigration before leaving your vessel. The Leeward Marina is a designated Port of Entry and, as such, has an on-site Customs and Immigration office. Each vessel must complete registration information upon entering the Leeward Marina identifying the size of its holding tank(s) and the number of persons aboard. This data is entered into Leeward Marina’s computerized monitoring system which electronically and telephonically notifies the crew and marina personnel whenever it calculates that a holding tank pump-out is required to prevent accidental oversight by the crew. Holding tank pump-outs are provided at no charge at Leeward Marina.
The Customs officer clearing your vessel and crew will issue:
- Cruising Permit (Form C113-6/95) granting a "3-month Temporary Importation without payment of Customs charges" for the vessel. The permit is valid for three months and can be renewed for an additional three months period provided it is renewed before it expires. Once the permit expires, the vessel must leave the country for 24 hours prior to returning to re-start the process.
- Pleasure Craft Report of Arrival and Temporary Importation Declaration (Form C108-6/93) declaring the crew and any goods aboard. Any Guns and ammunition aboard are to be turned over to the Customs officer, with a proper receipt given therefore - these are returned by Customs when the vessel is cleared outwards from TCI.
The Turks and Caicos Customs officers are very friendly and courteous. At the same time, they are highly trained and professional so do not misjudge their casual demeanor for the serious business at hand. As with most Crown-affiliated islands, guns are strictly prohibited so be certain to turn over any on-board a vessel. We have found ours to have been returned in the same condition as when given the Customs officer.
By Air: When visiting by air, most visitors fly into Providenciales upon entry to the islands and then can easily take a commuter flight to the other islands. It is a modern, full service facility that welcomes dozens of international flights every week from North America, Europe and other Caribbean Islands. It is also the gateway to the rest of the Turks and Caicos Islands.
